Catfoot Theatre Company

The Garage

The Garage at some point in the far distant future will become Catfoot Theatre’s rehearsal space. Measuring 38 square metres, this will be the creative hub for the company.

The Garage looks out onto open fields and countryside. So it is through rehearsing and devising right in the middle of this beautiful landscape that Catfoot Theatre’s work will be created. The Garage and its environment are central to our work.

At the moment The Garage is still being used as a … well … as a garage. Therefore it is home to several opened tins of paint, an old fireplace, a mattress we inherited from the previous owner, a Peter Pan Theatre Royal promotion banner and various spiders.

I am currently trying to convert the space for Catfoot Theatre, however, progress on The Garage has been effectively dumped on as a ‘Change of Use’ planning application to Gedling Borough Council has been refused.

The reason given that the site lies within the Green Belt for Nottingham and is deemed inappropriate development. This is despite the fact that no structural changes will be made to the garage, no objections have been raised, the ventures has been supported by local councillors and the work generated by Catfoot Theatre for Lambley will surely have a beneficial impact for the village.

So rehearsal space will have to be found elsewhere, but in the meantime I still have the dream …
